Green Hack: Change the type of grass you use

Do you hate the type of grass you have?  Does it just rot and die off after the initial dump of water in the late winter/early spring?  You might be interested to know that most people who buy homes buy them with the worst type of grass possible: Kentucky Blue.

Try Tall Fescue!  My friend put that stuff into his yard (he’s got about 50% shade, btw—grass likes shade) and he hasn’t had to water it or fertilize it since putting it in 5 years ago.  While others are spending massive amounts of money and effort and paychecks to get their lawns greener, people who put in Fescue end up with a greener lawn and lower water bills (which means less fresh water usage!).  It’s a bit more expensive, he says, but it more than pays for itself in the first year.
